About the people involved in the Barefoot University Foundation

Director

Jenny Lawrence, Founder of the Garden Route Trust and the Barefoot University Foundation, Fellow of the Findhorn Foundation, Board Member of A World Institute for Sustainable Humanity, South African Representative for the Institute of Noetic Sciences.

Jenny has lived on the Garden Route for 27 years, holding the vision of Khoinania as a small educational centre, meeting local needs. Over the years she has attended numerous international conferences in the fields of planetary and personal transformation. She initiated a five year campaign to raise awareness of the need for ecologically sustainable development of the Southern Cape Coast. Thereafter, in the year 2000, she designed and ran the Khanyisa Environmental Educational Programme for local disadvantaged adolescents and youths. She won a ministerial Lifetime Achievement Award for this work. Jenny has recently turned her attention to upgrading the quality of life in the local village communities, for which the Barefoot University Foundation has been established. Beyond these commitments, she retains her life long conviction that the Spirit of Voluntarism needs to be cherished and promoted in this profit driven world.

See www.globalgreen.org.za for further information on her past involvements.

Project Manager

Earle Lawrence, life partner of Jenny, father of Aidan and Olivia, is a natural born engineer and inventor, master of many crafts! He is currently launching his first significant invention (an electrical cable connecting system) into the market place, whilst simultaneously turning his natural talent for compost making, tree growing and youth development towards the Greening Kurland Village Project.

Website Designer and Lodge Host

Aidan Lawrence was born and raised on the Heidehof Farm, now named Khoinania. He has been involved with all of the various initiatives run at Khoinania over the past 24 years, assisting his mother, Jenny, on many of the educational programmes she has run at this venue. He is an artist and natural designer, turning his talents with equal ease and flair to website, clothing, architectural or garden design! He enjoys nothing more than an excellent party at the Wild Tongue Lounge, his own domain!

Village Project Leaders

Johannes, Elvis and Kiwi Jantjies: The three brothers grew up on the Heidehof Farm, where Khoinania Lodge is now situated. All three young men are closely connected with the Kurland Village and have a deep understanding of the natural environment. They have been involved in the restoration of the Heidehof Farm following the devastating fire of 1998 and each has a particular interest in assisting the youth of Kurland to find a meaningful and economically sustainable future. They understand the problems of poverty from their own life experience and wish to be part of the local solution.
