KHOINANIA LODGE

Situated on the western boundary of the Tsitsikamma National Park, with valleys of indigenous rainforest and hillsides of wild flowers all around, close to several excellent beaches and mapped out nature trails, Khoinania is an ideal base from which to explore the renowned Garden Route, often referred to as “South Africa’s jewel”.

Volunteers will occupy three spacious double storey cottages, each comprising three bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, a kitchen and living room with awesome valley and mountain views from upper and lower decks. The two lower bedrooms sleep two people and the large upper bedroom sleeps four people, allowing a total of eight people per cottage. Each group of eight will share the kitchen and living rooms downstairs. It is a “home away from home”, comfortable and friendly!

Travel and Transport to Lodge

Volunteers need to book their flights to Johannesburg or Cape Town International Airports and from there take an internal flight to George Airport, where they will be met by the Khoinania hosts and driven back to the Lodge.

Domestic Arrangements and Work Schedules

Volunteers will be comfortably accommodated at a local guest lodge, Khoinania, five kilometres from Kurland Village. Board, lodging and transport (to and from the village) will be provided. One recreational outing every weekend will be organised with transport provided. (Other recreational trips may be organised with costs carried by volunteers.)

Volunteers’ work will vary according to the different tasks at hand, from tending the nursery plants, cooking community meals, to joining teams in the village planting trees and developing vegetable gardens.

Working hours will be from 09h00 to 13h00 Mondays to Fridays, allowing free afternoons and weekends to relax and explore the Garden Route in your own time. Interesting talks, slide shows on the local animal and plant life, as well as lively discussions around the camp fire, will provide evening recreation.
